Full-time Cataloger

Pay: $10.75 per hour

Hours: 38.5 regularly scheduled hours per week; Monday-Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.*

Definition:

Under the general supervision of the Collection Services Librarian and oversight by the Assistant Collection Services Librarian, the Cataloging Librarian is responsible for producing bibliographic records in MARC format that meet established criteria for all new materials acquired by the library.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities are assigned by the Collection Services Librarian and may vary depending on departmental staffing levels and the skills and experience of the employee. Duties include, but are not limited to:

•  Editing MARC records and holdings information for new books and other materials in the online catalog

•  Keeping a daily record of materials completed and sent to circulate

•  Performing other tasks and duties as assigned by the Collection Services Librarian

Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited institution preferred; OR
  • MLS in progress; OR
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field AND two years of any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Competencies:

  • Ability to gather statistical data related to job duties
  • Knowledge of professional library principles, methods, techniques, and procedures
  • Knowledge of computers, the Internet, and online catalog
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Part-time Collection Services Associate

Pay: $8.60 per hour

Hours:
No more than 16.0 regularly scheduled hours per week*

Sunday: 12:45 PM – 5:15 PM

Thursday: 5:15 PM – 9:15 PM

Saturday: 8:45 AM – 5:15 PM **

*Regularly scheduled hours are subject to change as deemed necessary by department supervisor and manager.

** Includes a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

Duties include: Using the library's automated system to discharge materials, process holds, perform location changes, and conduct inventories; retrieving holds from the stacks; sorting, organizing, and shelving library materials, including books, magazines/newspapers, and media; reading shelves for neatness and proper order; rearranging or shifting books as necessary.

Competencies include: Ability to read and write; ability to use basic computer programs, including Microsoft Office programs; knowledge of and commitment to excellent customer service; good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with customers and staff; ability to understand and follow written and oral communication; ability to master the library's online catalog and automated circulation system; ability to see, read, and understand catalog records and to apply the information they contain; ability to efficiently and accurately use the computer to carry out job responsibilities.
