Interlibrary Loans
 
Answers to some common questions about Interlibrary Loans:
 1. What are Interlibrary Loans?
 

If you have searched our catalog and cannot locate the item you are interested in, we may be able to borrow it from another library. Such special loans are called Interlibrary Loans. You can also request that we purchase the item for the library's collection.

 2. How do I make a request?
 

First check the Jessamine County Public Library catalog to see if we own the title you want.

If not, contact the Information Desk in person, by phone at 859-885-3523, or via e-mail.

 3. Can I decide whether the library purchases or borrows my
     request for me?
 

The Library reserves the right to fill your request in the manner that is most beneficial for the Library and our customers, while still delivering the item to you in as timely a manner as possible. If you requested an item through Prospector and it could not be filled in that manner the request will be transferred to Interlibrary Loan in an effort to fulfill your request.

 4. What types of items may I request?
 

We are able to borrow books from other libraries.  A few libraries will also lend audiobooks, select DVDs, microfilm and reference materials.

 5. How long will it take for my request to arrive?
 

The average time to process your request is 2 weeks. The time varies depending on the availability of the item.

 6. Is there a charge for this service?
 

There is no charge to you for items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan. On occasion, however, when we borrow an item from another library, that library will charge us for this service. We will borrow from a library that charges fees only if you authorize us to do so and only if there are no free libraries to try first. In these cases, fees are due when you pick up your item.

Interlibrary loans are a privilege, so please do not request an item if you don't think you will be able to collect it.  If you are unable to pick up your interlibrary loan, please let us know as soon as possible.  If the item has not been collected by its due date and we were not notified, we will charge $1.00 to your library account.

 7. How will I be contacted if there are questions or concerns
    about my request?
 

If we need to contact you about a request, we will contact you via e-mail (if you provide your e-mail address on the request form), by phone, or a letter sent to the address listed on your Jessamine County Public Library account.

 8. How many requests may I submit at a time?
 

You may have three requests at a time. Please note that your requests may not arrive at the same time and that we do not have any control over the order in which you receive the items.

 9. How long can I keep an item you borrowed for me through
     Interlibrary Loan?
 

The lending library determines the length of the loan. The item's due date will be clearly marked on the sticker placed on the item. Please do not remove this sticker.

Some libraries allow one renewal. If you think you need to renew your item you can call Information Services one week before the item's due date and we'll let you know if it will renew or not.

 10. What are the fines for overdue Interlibrary Loans?
 

The fine for an overdue Interlibrary Loan is $1.00 per day with a maximum fine of $21.00. If you lose or damage an item from another library, you may be charged replacement fees.

 11. What is the sticker for?
 

Every interlibrary loan will be processed with a sticker on the cover. This help both you and the library keep track of these special items and remember when they are due back to the library. To ensure safe return of the material, please do not remove the sticker.  If the item is lost due to removal of the sticker, you may be charged replacement fees.

 12. How do I renew my item?
 

Some libraries allow one renewal. If you think you need to renew your item you can contact Information Services one week prior to the item's due date and we'll let you know if it will renew or not. Telephone: 859-885-3523. E-mail Information Services.

 13. How will I be contacted when my item arrives?
 

When your item arrives, you will be contacted either by a phone call or e-mail (if you provide your e-mail address on the request form).

 14. How do I pick up my Interlibrary Loan?
 

Make sure you don't have any outstanding bills or overdue items on your account, and then bring your library card to the information desk. If you would like a spouse or friend to collect the item on your behalf, you need to have a signed permission form on file.
