How long have you been a librarian?
I have worked at JCPL for 19 years now. I started working part-time in the Children’s Library while I worked toward my Master’s in Library Science from the University of Kentucky. I finished my degree back in 2007 and have filled several positions at JCPL since that time.
About 3 years ago, I stepped into the newly created position of Juvenile Materials Collection Development Librarian. That means I get to select and deselect the Children & Teen materials. I absolutely love it!
What’s your favorite aspect of your job?
Getting to see the beautiful, interesting new titles coming into the library is my favorite. My “To Read” list is constantly growing longer and longer.
Having face-to-face interaction with our customers is also one of my favorite things. It’s really fulfilling to me to help connect customers with the collection, services, and programs. I often say, “Did you know that the library offers…..?” Meeting and exceeding customer expectations is just the best thing ever!
Where’s your favorite place to visit in Wilmore?
I have a long history in Wilmore that started when I was about 6 months old. My parents moved here from out-of-state to Asbury for Seminary. Wilmore became a home base of sorts while my family traveled and lived all over the globe.
Now that I’m raising my own child in Wilmore, we enjoy going to Centennial Park, as well as taking my dog for walks around the neighborhood. I also enjoy popping into the cute shops along Main Street to buy gifts for friends and family.
If you could visit a fictional world, where would you go?
I would love to spend a week at Prince Edward Island, featured in the Anne of Green Gables books. Either that or at the top of a mountain in Switzerland with Heidi and her grandfather.
When asked if there was anything else she’d like to share, Juliana said: It’s a bit surreal to walk past my old 4th-grade classroom when I visit JCPL+. Where City Hall is now located is where the elementary school used to be. Sometimes, our past collides with our present. Life is funny that way.
