Winter Dance with Encore of Lexington

Saturday, Feb. 18, 7:00–9:00 p.m.

Dance away your winter blues to the energizing, soul-moving sounds of Encore of Lexington. Playing a mix of Motown classics, funk, and modern hits, Encore takes pride in keeping their audiences on the dance floor. This event is geared toward adults and teens, but all are welcome.

Light refreshments will be served. No registration is required.


Lexington Children’s Theatre: Anansi the Spider

Wednesday, Feb. 22, 6:30–7:30 p.m.

Enjoy the Lexington Children’s Theatre’s performance of the classic African folktale Anansi the Spider. This performance is recommended for grades K-3 and their caregivers.

Camp Nelson: Winter Lecture Series

Saturday, Feb. 25, 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Join us for a presentation by Dr. Holly A. Pinheiro, Assistant Professor of African American History at Furman University and author of The Families’ Civil War: Black Soldiers and the Fight for Racial Justice.

African American Genealogy

Saturday, Feb. 25, 12:45–2:00 p.m.

Tracing African American family histories often presents unique research challenges. This session provides an overview of the methods and resources essential for making progress, while using as examples some recently documented portions of nineteenth-century Kentucky Black lives.
