While you’re getting outside this summer, why not learn a little bit of history?
Take a self-guided audio tour of downtown Nicholasville in episode three of the Jessamine History Walks podcast. Travel back in time with stories about thirteen different sites, including one with a close connection to the early hemp industry, the E.R. Sparks building.
The E.R. Sparks Building
The gray building located at 114 N. Main Street once belonged to Edward Robert Sparks (1840-1914). Sparks also owned a hemp and bagging factory at what is now the northwest corner of Oak and North Main.
Hemp in Jessamine County
From 1840 to 1860, Jessamine County ranked as one of the top hemp-producing counties in the country. Learn why this was one of the most important crops for local farmers in this video preview of episode three of the Jessamine History Walks podcast.
