Purpose
The Jessamine County Public Library Foundation supports the future of the public library system in Jessamine County and furthers the Library’s mission to enrich the lives of all county residents.
Individual, tax-deductible contributions to the Library Foundation do not support library operations; instead, 100% of gifts are used to add or expand facilities, services, or technology, starting with constructing a full-service library branch on East Brannon Road.

A Library Branch in Brannon Crossing
“The building material for humanity is each other.” — Dr. Ron Critchfield, JCPL Executive Director
Since its beginnings over 120 years ago, the Jessamine County Public Library has proudly served residents of Jessamine County, encouraging curiosity and the pursuit of ideas with a modern facility located in downtown Nicholasville.
Demand for library service in Wilmore saw the 2021 opening of JCPL+, Kentucky’s first self-service library space, in partnership with the Wilmore Municipal Center.
Population growth in Nicholasville and Jessamine County has not slowed. Jessamine placed 12th on Louisville Courier-Journal’s 2021 list of counties experiencing the most population growth within the last decade.
A flourishing community means an expanding need for library services. A conveniently located branch in the Brannon Crossing area will connect families, students, businesses, and organizations with more opportunities to explore library materials, collaborate with others in free-to-use meeting spaces, and discover the fun of learning at every age.

Brannon Crossing Branch Frequently Asked Questions
Why Brannon Crossing?
Careful consideration was made before choosing Brannon Crossing for the location of the new branch. This area of Jessamine County continues to see strong population growth with new housing developments and plans to develop public schools in the future.
In addition, a county-wide survey showed that northeastern Jessamine was the most desired location for a new library branch.
We have also seen a steady increase in the use of our Library in a Box location outside of Kroger in Brannon Crossing, indicating that this is indeed a convenient location for many in our community.
Will tax rates increase to make this branch a reality?
We are excited to bring library services to the north end of the county and are proud to do so without increasing the tax rate.
Fiscal Year 25-26 is actually the 5th year in a row that our county residents have seen a decreased tax rate on real property levied by JCPL.
Will this branch replace the Main Street location?
No, this will be a full-service library in addition to the one on Main Street and the self-service branch in Wilmore.
What is the expected timeline for construction?
We do not have a timeline yet for when the branch will be completed, but we’re happy to hear you’re excited about it! We’ll be sharing more updates as we go.
Currently, we are fundraising and working on the design of the building with our architect. Once funding is secured, it will be around an 18-month construction project.
