Policy Statement
In keeping with the mission of Jessamine County Public Library (JCPL) to enrich the community with ideas, information, and cultural opportunities, the Library participates in various social media applications which allow engagement through online communication.
These resources, summarized below, allow members of the community remote access to JCPL content and staff.
Definition
Social media is defined as any website, application, or online account which allows users to share information and/or opinions. This can include, but is not limited to, social media sites, blogs, instant messaging platforms, and online reviews.
Regulations
The Library does not collect, maintain, or otherwise use the personal information stored on any third party site in any way other than to communicate with users on the site. Users may remove themselves at any time from the Library’s lists of followers, or request that the Library remove them. Users should familiarize themselves with third‐party websites’ privacy policies and proceed accordingly. Comments, posts, and messages are welcome on JCPL social media sites. While JCPL recognizes and respects differences in opinion, all such interactions may be regularly monitored and reviewed for content and relevancy. All postings which are found to contain any of the following may be removed, hidden, or not posted, and the poster’s privileges may be suspended on JCPL social media sites:
- Obscene content as defined by KRS 531.010
- Any content violating the policy of the social media site or a federal, state, or local law
- Copyright violations
- Intentionally misleading or false information, defamatory content, threats, verbal abuse, or harassment
- Private or personally identifiable information published without the consent of the individual
- Off topic comments and hyperlinks
- Commercial promotions or spam
- Political campaigning
- Photos or other images unrelated to the Library, its mission, or its activities
- Duplicated posts from the same individual
The decision to suspend or restore privileges resides with the Executive Director.
Disclaimer
Views expressed in postings do not necessarily represent the views or policies of, or endorsement by, JCPL. The Library is not responsible or liable for any content posted in a JCPL social media forum by any participant who is not a member of the Library’s staff.
JCPL assumes no liability regarding any event or interaction that takes place by any participant in any Library‐sponsored social media service. Participation in JCPL social media services implies agreement with all Library policies, including its Social Media Policy and Acceptable Use for Computers and Internet Access Policy, and the Terms of Service of each individual third‐party service.
As with more traditional resources, the Library does not act in place of or in the absence of a parent and is not responsible for enforcing any restrictions which a parent or guardian may place on a minor’s use of this resource.
The role and utility of social media sites will be evaluated periodically by library staff and may be terminated at any time without notice to subscribers.
JCPL social media is monitored by library staff. Staff will interact Monday through Saturday, during Library open hours.
JCPL reserves the right to remove any post for any reason without prior notice.
