Regular Schedule
- Sundays: 12:45pm-6:15pm
- Wednesdays: 9:15am-2:00pm
- Fridays: 2:30pm-7:15pm
- Additional hours as needed
Definition
Under the general supervision of the Customer Technology Librarian, the Technology Desk Associate is responsible for performing tasks related to the needs of customers and the technology offered within the library. The work requires the Technology Desk Associate to effectively interact and serve the public daily. The Technology Desk Associate will be asked to work additional hours as needed and may be asked to cover shifts on another team occasionally.
Duties and Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Providing excellent customer support and service; be present and visible in the public computer area and available to customers requiring assistance
- Responding to a variety of questions from customers related to the library and/or usage of the public computers and other equipment/resources available to the public
- Assisting customers with the fundamental operations of commonly used software, hardware, and other equipment
- Maintaining a current general knowledge of technology trends and the changing needs of customers
- Ensuring that the public computer area is always ready for use; stocking paper and toner in printers, pushing in chairs, troubleshooting technical issues, reporting problems to appropriate parties, etc.
- Assisting in completion of library tickets when assigned
- Using the library’s ILS system to perform routine tasks and answer general customer inquiries
- Explaining and enforce library policies
- Performing designated shift procedures
- Performing library-related work as assigned for the efficient and effective operation of the institution
- Performing other tasks and duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma (Some college preferred)
- Proficient knowledge of use of the Internet and Microsoft Office applications
- Working knowledge of PCs and computer networks

- Operate and perform routine maintenance on library equipment including, but not limited to, the telephone, fax, copier, printer, computer, and other office equipment
Physical Demands
- Lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, and similar movements when the occasion requires
- Moving 50-100-lb. book trucks and handling moderately heavy boxes of books when the occasion requires
- Ability to work in a stationary position for long periods of time (4-8 hours)
- Ability to view computer screens for extended lengths of time (4-8 hours)
- Ability to communicate and exchange information with coworkers and customers

Other Information
- All employment at the Jessamine County Public Library is considered “employment at will.”
- Hours of work are dependent upon the public service hours of the team. Employees are required to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
- Employees must adhere to library policies and procedures as described in the Employee Handbook.
- All employees are expected to follow the JCPL Confidentiality Policy.
- Work performance is continuously evaluated, new employees will discuss work performance at 30, 60, and 90 days of employment. All employees will have an annual discussion of work performance.
- All employees must participate in Direct Deposit for payroll.
